Week 4 Journal

This week I always feel good when the kids come or run to me and hug me. It makes me feel as if they are happy that I'm in their class. I very much enjoy spending time with these kids so I guess they apprciate the time I put in with working with them.
I hope that for the rest of me coop placement it would change because I like alot here and I wouldn't mind being there more often. Too bad its a school and I can't come on weekends, but out of the time I have I am honoured to have this oppurtunity to do coop.
I think being with these kids and with the teachers it really brings out my creative side, and gives me some new unique ideas for my future reference.

Friday March 23

Mrs. Slomka's class was pretty fun today, and it went by too fast.
She wanted me to help her with this Easter chick assignment. I had to mix half a cup of glue and two full cups of shaving cream. Mix it all together and add a couple drops of yellow food colouring. What I created out of that is the body of the chicks that the kids were designing with. I had to put two gloops of that yellow shaving cream and the kids would have to shape the chick on how they wanted it.

Thursday March 22

Mrs. Greer's class today went by pretty fast. Probably due to, me doing something every minute of the afternoon. I basically did the same thing today as I did in Mrs. Trecrose's class. The kids painted too, but some of them still had to colour their vases. I helped out the kids by mixing the colours white and black to make gray. Then I just cleaned up in the end and was dismissed to go home.

Wednesday March 21

In Mrs. Trecrose's class today I helped her out by helping the kids paint. They had to mix white paint and black paint together to get the colour gray, and make finger prints on this plant they drew. I didn't get to help all of them because this task was time consuming and I would of had to clean up each time a child sat in the same seat. At the end of the day the table I was sitting at (where the kids were sitting with me) was probably the colour gray due to the mess but I cleaned it up(thank goodness it was washable paint).

Tuesday March 20

Mrs. Rogulski was already in her class when I arrived at around noon so I started off me day earlier. Today I took down some winter and penguin pictures due to the kids have already done their penguin projects and presented them to the class.
For about 20 mins, I watched some movie about the senses that we have(scientific movie), with the kids. Mrs. Rogulski had to step out the class for a couple minutes so she asked if I could watch over her kids for that period of time.

Monday March 19

Mrs. Skilton's class was more quiet than ususally, proabably because the kids just came back from the break. She asked me if I could take down snowflakes, and construstion paper from the bulletin board, and staple green consrution paper for spring time. Finishing that, she asked if I could trace each childs hand(their right and their left), for an assisngment they will be doing on chicks for Easter. It was time to get ready and go home, I helped out the kids on getting dressed, and said goodbye.

Week 3 Journal

Getting to co-op on time is important. As long as I am at my classroom at 12:20pm, that when I usually start off my afternoon at my placement. I have no been late I uaually come at around noon just to get an idea of what and who I will be working with.
Some days the teachers have alot for me to do but other days I just watch and listen what the kids do and teachers on a daily basis. Most of the time I do some marking for teachers or sometimes I help out the kids if they need help on a specific activity.
I was frustrated when a child in Grade 1 "joking around"with me and telling me all the "funny"jokes non'stop and each tme I would tell him to stop, he would eventually stop but in 5 minutes he would start again with the jokes. Only once I was frustrated, the rest of the time I am there I enjoy my placment very much.
I am glad and so are the teachers on how we are finally close to the March Break, and that today was the last day.

Thursday March 10

I was in Mrs. Greer's class, helping her with cutting out kites for the kids. Sonia and Cathy helped me out with cutting and tracing out the kites. We probably had to cut out 50 or even more. It took us a while to finish them but after that, me and Sonia helped out Mrs. Rogulski on cleaning out her subject shelf. Where she has spelling, math, geometry and more subjects. Once I was finish, I was dismissed to go home.

Wednesday March 7

I was in Mrs. Trecrose's class and I continued on working with the children that didn't get to finish their math evaluation assisgment. That task took until recess for the kids, so once I was with Mrs. Trecroce she gave me another task to do. This task was to get as many green construction papers for the kids to do an activity for St. Patrick's Day. After that me and Sonia traced out circles and numbered them 1 to 200. The numbers going up by 5 were green and the numbers going up by 10 were red and the rest in between were yellow.

Tuesday March 6

I was in Mrs. Rogulski's classroom today. I started out the afternoon by cleaning her closet, where she had, constrtion paper(large, and median size). She also had teacher supplies such as pencils pens markers, stickers, letters, etc. The reason why she gave me the task is they have to order new supplies soon. I took me a while to clean the closet out due to her having so many papers unorganized.
Then Mrs. Rogulski sent me to Mrs. Greer's class to clean her closet out. I got to her class and Sonia was there already helping out with Mrs. Greer's closet. Mrs. Greer asked if we could organize the construction paper, and the piant bottles to be filled. Once Sonia and me were done our job the bell rang and we went home.

Monday March 5

I was in Mrs. Skilton's class today, I arrived at about noon. And she wasn't there in her classroom yet so I ended up finding Sonia and we stayed in Mrs. Smith's classroom. Later at around 12:10pm Mrs. Skilton finally arrived. Today she asked me if I could help her with changing letter books for different ones for the kids to take home. Before I changed their book I asked the kids to read me one more time the book they read last night with their parents.
Once I finished that task she asked me if I could rip out the scholastic order forms for the kids, to take home.
A little after two o'clock Mrs. Skilton asked me to help Isaiah(one of her students)with his alphabet because he is very behind. So I took a alphabet puzzle. On one side of the puzzle is a picture in half so you would have to find the other half, put it together and guess what letter is underneith the puzzle piece. 2:40pm it was time to get them ready for home time. So I helped out on zipping up some jackets, and helping out a student named AJ with everything.

Week 2 Journal

This placement is what I expected because I am working at a school as a teacher assisstant, and I think I am titled in doing the right work for maybe my future career choice. I enjoy my placement because I get to see somewhat of the same teachers and students each week, so I'm not everywhere around the school. Two tasks that I like doing is helping the kids out of they need any help, or even marking spelling, math, or anything for the teacher. I think the teachers like me, due to the fact that I am polite to them and their students, and I don't mind doing anything for the teacher.
Situations that made me feel good were when I have to help the children make either a seesaw, swing or slide out of only tape and constrution paper. I liked helping them becasue in return I got lots of hugs in the end, and they even rememebered my name. To the kids I am named as Ms. Karolina, or Ms. K, its hard for them to remember or even pronounce my last name so I asked the teachers to introduce me to them as one of those names above.
I really enjoy my placement and the people I work with. I have asked many teachers on how they got to were they are now, and usually they answered me with taking Teacher's College. And I would also need the most of out volenteering or helping out with kids anywhere.
This whole week made me lose some hours due to the weather, but hopefully I will make up for them in the end.

Friday March 2

I was away from my placement due to the condition of the roads. I had no way of getting to my placement.

Thursday March 1

On Thursday I was in Mrs. Greer's grade one class. She gave me a couple things to work with. The first task I was assisnged to do was to test her kids on the knowing of 2-D shapes, and 3-D shapes. With 2-D shapes they only had to name if it's a circle, square, rectangle, or triangle. With the 3-D shapes I had to test them on thier knowledge of what shape it is, and if they could tell me a couple things about the shape. Later Mrs. Greer asked me just to sort out her coloured constrution paper, the same colours in one pile. I didn't get to that task due to the winter storm that came in, so I was told to be dismissed by the VP.
